Meditating is what helps me most in this burnout recovering period, and I strongly believe it is useful in prevention too.
Naturally, thoughts come up during meditation - we're all human and our minds are programmed to think! A tip that you will often get, in order not to stick to the thoughts that come up during meditation, is to just watch them pass by like clouds in the sky.
For more encrusted thoughts, I think of Dumbledore's Pensieve and visualize picking the thoughts out of my mind with a magic wand, and then watch them drift away.
